Join The Celeb Trend And Ditch That Dodgy Tattoo!
Once a permanent statement of rebellion, tattoos are more popular than ever before.
No longer the domain of sailor’s and hardened criminals, tattoos are a highly common sight with 36% of people aged 18-25 having at least one tattoo and 40% of people aged 26-40 sporting some ink. A trend among Tinsel town for years, celebrities such a Megan Fox, Angelina Jolie, Johnny Depp and rapper 50 Cent are just a few of the inked up crowd in Hollywood. In fact, politician Winston Churchill even had a tattoo!
Unfortunately, many people are regretting many of the tattoos they have acquired over the years.
A study has shown that more than 23% of people who have a tattoo now regret their permanent ink! Celebrities are also regretting their tattoos with Bob Geldof’s daughter Peaches stating:
“I regret every single tattoo I’ve ever had . . . I find them horrendous. If I could graft a completely new skin for myself, I would.”
Fortunately there is a modern laser treatment that can completely remove or reduce the appearance of tattoos.
Tattoos are created by injecting ink about a millimetre into the skin (the middle layer called the dermis). As this layer doesn’t shed like the skin’s surface, and the ink particles are too big to be broken down by the immune system, the tattooed image becomes a permanent fixture on a person’s skin.
The lasers work by splitting the ink into smaller fragments, allowing them to be broken down by the body and naturally removed.
Several colours of laser light are used to target different pigments- red light works best on blue, black and red inks; green light targets red and orange; near infrared works on dark pigments while another wavelengths of infrared are absorbed by green and dark pigments.
The laser handpiece is held like a pen, so removal can be precise. This is especially beneficial for celebrities such as Johnny Depp, who had his ode to ex-girlfriend Winona Ryder (a tattoo that stated ‘winona forever’) comically changed to ‘Wino Forever’.
