(1) What is Circumcision?
This is a surgical procedure for conservative
penile skin excision skin thus exposing the glans
partially or completely.
(2) How much skin is exceed?
The keyword here is "conservative excision".
In an adult the doctor has to exercise caution
in excising skin. It must be adequate that it
does not hinder a full erection.
(3) How long does the surgery take?
The procedure is a day procedure. You do not have
to stay. This is done as an outpatient basis.
It can take about 1 hour to do the procedure.
(4) Do I need a general anesthetic?
There is no need for a general anesthetic. The
procedure is absolutely sufficient with i.v. sedation
and local anesthesia.
(5) Can I drive after the procedure?
No, you cannot. You got to have someone to take
you home.
(6) Do I need to take time of work?
Yes, you do. Its safe to say that one should have
about 5 days off from work.
(7) Do I have to remove any sutures?
No. There are no sutures to remove. Multiple dissolving
sutures which have been put will dissolve in about
2 weeks.
(8) Do I have to come back for post op
check?
Yes, you do. On the 2nd and 5th day.
(9) What kind of bandage will I have?
When you go back you will have a tapped bandage
exposing the glans.
(10) Can I shower?
Yes, you can. Use a condom and gently tie it at
the back to prevent the bandage getting wet.
(11) When can I remove the bandage?
On the 5th day you can soak the bandage in water
and gently peel it off.
(12) What do I do after 5 days?
To help the stitches to dissolve apply Vaseline
daily.
(13) When can I have sex?
Around six weeks.
(14) What complication can I expect?
- Infection
- Bleeding
- Wound break down. To prevent infection you
will be put on antibiotic. If there is any bleeding
you will need to come back and see us. If wound
break down which can happen a week or two to
after surgery you may need to restitch it.
(15) What medication do I have after
surgery?
- Antibiotic to take regularly as prescribed.
- Painkillers as prescribed.
- Sedation at night to help relief painful erections.
(16) If I come from interstate?
You will have to stay here 5 days after the procedure.
(17) Can I claim any on Medicare?
Yes, a small claim on Medicare.
(18) Can I decide how much of skin I want
excised?
Yes, within caution a skin marking will be done
before surgery to mutually understand the surgery.
(19) Can the frenulum be dealt at the same time?
Yes, it is dealt at the same time. The frenulum
is released.
