Do you have a tattoo you regret? Laser tattoo removal is the best way to remove your tattoo.

At Ashbury Cosmetic Surgery we have seen a lot of beautiful tattoos but everyone can have a change of heart as time passes…

There is a fine line between beautiful works of tattoo art and a purely in the moment tattoo. You can usually determine the difference when you see an intricately decorated tattoo that has more than likely taken four sittings to create and a small tattoo that may or may not have a resemblance to a stencil, incorrect Chinese/Japanese symbols or declarations of love. Of course, this is a stereotype but most of the time tattoos that have stemmed from a ‘long’ night out, whirl wind romances and hasty decisions are the reasons why patients tend to opt for tattoo removal. At Ashbury Cosmetic Surgery we don’t judge, we are here to help you enhance and transform your body to your own desire and if you would like to remove a tattoo we are more than happy to accommodate you.

How does the tattooing process work?

A tattoo is a way of permanently marking/staining the skin so that it is unable to be removed by shedding or rubbed off with water, soaps or chemicals. When a tattoo artist prepares the skin for the tattoo it is cleansed with a sterilising solution and then the artist will use an electronically powered tattoo ink machine which can puncture the skin between 50 and 3,000 times per minute. This puncture goes through the first layer of the skin called the epidermis and injects an insoluble bubble of ink into the dermis. The epidermis is a translucent layer of skin, that is why we are able to see the ink layer in the dermis layer of skin and this is also the reason why we are unable to easily remove the tattoo after the tattoo process. Once the tattoo is on your skin it is there for life (although it can age if exposed to UV sunlight) and it will be impossible to remove without surgical intervention.

At Ashbury Cosmetic Surgery we can remove tattoos with our laser surgery techniques…

Removing a tattoo is a difficult process but it can be done, at our cosmetic surgery we offer laser surgery techniques which are some of the only treatment options available for removing tattoos. Laser treatments gradually fade the tattoo by breaking down the ink pigment in the dermis layer. This pigmentation is then naturally eliminated from your body via circulatory and the lymphatic system. The number of procedures needed to remove your tattoo will depend on the size, depth, age, your complexion, the colour and type of ink used to make your tattoo.

Scarring is a possible result of this treatment because the skin where your tattoo once was, can blister or crust after the treatment. To minimise the chances of scaring it is important to take care of the treated area by keeping it hydrated and healthy and by avoiding fatty foods.

*If you are considering getting a tattoo please take the time and consideration to plan what you would like to have on your skin for the rest of your life. People get tattoos for many reasons and if you would like to decorate your body with art make sure it means something too you.

If you would like to get a tattoo removed you can give us a call today on our Gold Coast office on (07) 557 068 00 or our Brisbane office on (07) 385 761 88.
