The Top 3 Cosmetic Procedures Requested By Men Are…
Many cosmetic surgeons are reporting a rise in male patients.
The good thing about the medical industry is that there is always someone, somewhere conducting and then publishing a report, or a survey. In part because the various medical fields are constantly evolving, new treatments are being placed on the market. Another reason is that social views change—where once cosmetic surgery was seen as a thing that women did, over the last decade here at Ashbury Cosmetics in Brisbane we have seen more and more men are undergoing cosmetic treatment.
An overseas Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery has, for the last 16 years, been keeping track of cosmetic surgery trends. Put simply, the report indicates a rise in men undergoing cosmetic surgery. In 2012 13% of cosmetic surgery procedures and 9% of minimally invasive procedures were performed on men. The report compared 2012 to 1997 and found that the number of men undergoing cosmetic surgery in 2012 was 106% higher than 1997.
Top 3 cosmetic procedures requested by men…
There are a number of factors attributed to this rise in cosmetic procedures in men; and indeed, the rise in cosmetic surgery is a general one with an increased number of women (and teenagers) opting for cosmetic surgery.
Some of the factors are things such as social media, men seeming to want to take more care of their appearance than previous generations; and this idea—espoused by a few—that 40 is the new 30. So, the top three procedures (according to this survey) most requested by men are:
1) Liposuction
The figures from this report state that:
- Around 40,000 men had liposuction in 2012.
- The nature of the treatment has changed: it’s gone from shedding excess weight to help sculpting an abdominal six-pack.
At Ashbury Cosmetic Surgery in Brisbane and on the Gold Coast we offer liposuction for both men and women. Liposuction is an effective way to sculpt your body by removing fat pockets in various places in the body.
It is important to note that liposuction is not a weight loss solution: for the best results regular diet and exercise are recommended both before and after the procedure.
2) Male Breast Reduction
The figures from the report:
- Approximately 23,000 men underwent male breast reduction in 2012.
- There has been a 29% increase from 2011 to 2012
Male breast reduction (or Gynocomastia) is an effective way to treat problems such as the over development and enlargement of male breasts.
When undergoing male breast reduction, we at Ashbury Cosmetic Surgery would sometimes recommend additionally having liposuction to complement the look post-gynocomastia.
3) Blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery)
The figures from the report:
- The numbers for the blepharoplasty are similar to male breast reduction: around 23,000 had blepharoplasty in 2012.
Blepharoplasty not only makes patients look younger, they also feel younger and report improved self-esteem. If you have any queries about blepharoplasty please do not hesitate to contact us.
