Do What You Can To Suppress Varicose Veins
The causes of varicose veins are attributed to a multitude of factors but what can you do to help decrease your chances of getting them….
At Ashbury Cosmetics Surgery we see many patients suffering from different degrees of varicose veins. While there is no way to completely prevent the effects of varicose veins there are some simple changes you can do to help slow the effects. Often genetics, ageing or hormonal changes can cause the outbreak of varicose veins, which makes this condition extremely difficult to avoid. With that said there are a couple of things you can actively do to help decrease your changes.
It’s all about blood flow try to dress accordingly…
If you think you are developing varicose veins, try regularly using compression hose (support hose). These can be purchased at medical supply stores or pharmacies and come in a variety of different compressions, colours and fits.
If flying, your varicose veins can sometimes cause discomfort, and whilst on a flight you will often be sitting in the same position for an extended period of time. Compression hose can help reduce strain and circulate blood flow on your legs and may be helpful for preventing the worsening of existing varicose veins.
Often high shoes or tight fitting outfits can put pressure on your varicose veins. Improve the circulation to your lower body by avoiding tight-fitting clothes on your legs and around your waist.
A change in your hormones can affect your varicose veins…
During significant hormonal changes in your body such as puberty, pregnancy, and menopause these periods tend to heighten your chances of getting varicose veins. Taking birth control pills and other medicines containing estrogen and progesterone also may contribute to the forming of varicose or spider veins. If you are trying to prevent further veins from developing consider alternative medicine options that don’t affect your hormonal balance.
Often during pregnancy women develop varicose veins because during pregnancy, there is a huge increase in the amount of blood in the body. This can cause the veins to enlarge. The growing uterus also puts pressure on the veins. Varicose veins usually improve within 3 months after delivery. More varicose veins and spider veins usually appear with each additional pregnancy.
Get them medically removed…
If you are past the preventative stage of your varicose vein condition then perhaps a medical treatment might be the solution for you. Here at Ashbury Cosmetic Surgery we offer innovative treatments to help remove the signs of varicose veins.
We are able to perform sclerotherapy or laser treatments at our southeast Queensland clinics to help remove unwanted veins. Sclerotherapy treatments involve the injection of a chemical that ‘scleroses’ or gums up the varicose veins. The vein’s lining will become irritated and accordingly collapse, and stick together. And our laser treatments work so that the laser heat damages a vein, which makes scar tissue form. This scar tissue will then close the vein, when a vein is closed it loses its source of blood and dies.
These treatments are virtually painless and effectively remove varicose and spider veins. With these new treatments, you no longer have to endure visits to the medical centre, rather you can visit one of our comforting and tranquil clinics. Our Ashbury Cosmetic Surgery’s in Brisbane, Mt Gravatt, Windsor, Indooroopilly and Gold Coast are looking out for your cosmetic needs. If preventative methods are still not helping with your varicose veins the cause could be genetic or otherwise ad we recommend coming in for consultation so we can establish the cause of the problem and the most appropriate treatment for you.
